Bundesliga is often tipped as one of the most entertained leagues in the football world. It is the third-best league in Europe based on the UEFA Coefficient behind Spanish La Liga and English Premier League. Lots of footballing talents had plied their trades in this league and performed impressively. So let us look into the history book of Bundesliga and see what happens on the 2009/2010 Bundesliga season.
Season Overview

After losing the title challenge against VfL Wolfsburg in the previous season, Bayern Munich had regained the Bundesliga title with a five points gap against Schalke 04. Werder Bremen get the spot of Champions League play-off qualification by finishing third place. The other clubs that gained the European football spot are Bayer Leverkusen, Borussia Dortmund and VfB Stuttgart. The defending champion, VfL Wolfsburg had flopped in this season as they are just finished the season in 8th place. In the relegation battle, VfL Bochum and Hertha BSC were relegated at the end of the season and 1.FC Nurnberg escaped from relegation by beating Augsburg in the relegation playoff.
Top 5 Goalscorer in 2009/2010 Bundesliga Season
1. Edin Dzeko (VfL Wolfsburg)- 22 goals

Despite VfL Wolfsburg suffered from poor performance, Edin Dzeko still contributes 22 goals in 34 league games that season. In contrast, Grafite as the club’s second top scorer only registered 11 goals in a whole season. Besides, Dzeko also contributes 10 assists as well. By percentage, the Bosnian striker had contributed 50% of VfL Wolfburg’s entire league goals that season.
Edin Dzeko is a familiar name among the current Premier League and Serie A football fans as he was later signed for Manchester City and AS Roma. The only thing remains is Dzeko is still the prolific striker wherever he plays. His infamous goal was the 92 minutes equaliser against Queens Park Rangers in Loftus Road before Sergio Aguero secured the Premier League title. He is still currently playing in Serie A side AS Roma as he scored 99 goals in 205 matches.
2. Stefan Kiessling (Bayer Leverkusen)- 21 goals

With his 21 goals contribution, Stefen Kiessling is the top-scoring German in the 2009/2010 Bundesliga season. Furthermore, his 7 assists were also the main attacking contribution for this free-scoring Bayer Leverkusen team who was also the third-highest scoring team in that season with 65 goals. Kiessling high-scoring ability also enabled him to nominated in the Bundesliga team of the season too.
However, this is not Kiessling’s most prolific season in his entire career. He scored 25 goals in 34 league games in the 2012-2013 season as he was named as the top scorer of that season as well. Unfortunately, Kiessling’s career was hampered by injuries as his appearances and performances were affected. At the end of the 2017-2018 season, Kiessling retired from professional football after 12 years stay in Bayer Leverkusen. He is now taking up work in the administrative sector of Bayer Leverkusen after the end of his career.
3. Lucas Barrios (Borussia Dortmund)- 19 goals

The goal-scoring form of the entire Borussia Dortmund squad at that season is far from impressive. In fact, Lucas Barrios is the only player who scored more than double digits in that season from Borussia Dortmund. His 19 goals and 5 assists contributions had contributed 44.4% of the league goal scored from the entire Borussia Dortmund squad, with their second-highest goalscorer, Mohamed Zidan only registered 6 goals and 8 assists in the whole season.
In the next season, Barrios was the main frontman from Borussia Dortmund that eventually won the Bundesliga title under Jurgen Klopp by contributing 16 goals and 6 assists. After that, Barrios was a journeyman that plied his trade in several countries such as China, Russia, France, Brazil and currently in Argentina. He is currently playing in Huracan as he only played a bit part in the current Argentina Primera Division season.
4. Kevin Kuranyi (Schalke 04)- 18 goals

Another high scoring German striker in the league, Kevin Kuranyi is the prolific striker that most of the German club admired of. He is not only high scoring but also a consistent goal scorer as well. Since he turned professional in 2001-2002 season, Kuranyi only failed to register more than 10 goals in a season three times. Including his most prolific one in the 2009-2010 season, in which he helped Schalke 04 to a runners-up finish.
Since that season, Kevin Kuranyi had moved to Dynamo Moscow where he continued his goalscoring form. In which he was the team captain since July 2012. In his 5 years stay in Moscow, Kuranyi scored 56 goals in 151 games in total. Which is almost a goal in three matches by ratio. After his contract with Dynamo Moscow expired in 2015, Kuranyi returned to Germany to sign for 1899 Hoffenheim on a one-year deal. He ended his professional football career after one year without a club in 2017.
5. Arjen Robben (Bayern Munich)- 16 goals

This is Arjen Robben’s first-ever season in Bundesliga, yet his report card in his first season in Allianz Arena or even in Germany can be only described as impressive. He registered 16 goals in 7 assists in only just 24 league games means he had a goal contribution almost every single game. Robben is known as one of the main reasons that Bayern Munich regained their Bundesliga title.
In his almost 10 years stay in Bayern Munich, Robben had developed to be a Bayern legend. He achieved almost every things achievable including a historic treble in the 2012-2013 season, in which he scored the winning goal in the Champions League final against rivals Borussia Dortmund in Wembley. He scored 144 goals in 309 games in his 10 seasons stay in Munich and hung up his boots at the end of the 2018-2019 season.
