Italian football is always best known for their well-disciplined defensive units. However, their ability to produce attacking talent is also could not be overlooked too. The iconic Italian attackers such as Christian Vieri, Francesco Totti and Ciro Immobile had been a few notable examples that Italy has also the ability to produce attacking talent. Therefore, there is certainly some pressure on the shoulder of the main character of this article to follow their footsteps. He is Andrea Pinamonti.
Pinamonti joined Internazionale youth setup from Chievo in 2013, aged 14. In his first three seasons in the Internazionale, he mainly played for the Internazionale U17 and Internazionale Primavera (which is Internazionale youth team) as a centre forward. His goal scoring ratio for the youth side is clinical as he was the main target man of the Internazionale youth team. In the 2015-2016 season, Pinamonti had scored 10 goals in 17 matches for Internazionale U17 side and 7 goals in 17 matches for Internazionale Primavera. He also helped his team to win the Coppa Italia Primavera in that season too. Pinamonti had seen the natural heir for Mauro Icardi in Internazionale first team. In the international stage, Pinamonti is also involved in the Italian U17 national team to participate 2016 Euro U17 Championship, where he scored 1 goal in 3 matches as Italy U17 has been knocked out from the tournament in the group stage.

The 2016-2017 season is the breakout season for Pinamonti’s youth career. He scored 19 goals in 28 matches all season long, winning the Campionato Primavera in the process too. His impressive performance in the youth level has rewarded by having the chance to play matches at senior level. His senior debut for Internazionale was at the 2016-2017 Europa League match against Sparta Prague as the starter on December 2016, aged 17. Three months later, Pinamonti made his first Serie A appearance in a match against Empoli where he replaced Eder in the match for the last 10 minutes. He had shown the sign that a future Italian attacking star was born in his breakout season.
Pinamonti has been promoted to the Internazionale first team on the 2017-2018 season as the recognition of his brilliant breakout season, but he also continued to play with Internazionale U19 team in UEFA Youth League, which they knocked out from Round of 16 by Manchester City U19 side. However, he has rarely played in the first team. His only appearance in the Serie A that season was in the match against Genoa when he replaced Antonio Candreva for the last 13 minutes. Despite the lack of playing time, Pinamonti had shown his class in the 2018 Euro U19 Championship as he helped his team to reach the Final, where the only lost to eventual winner Portugal after extra time.

In order to get more playing time, Pinamonti was loaned out to Serie A side Frosinone for one season. On October 2018, Pinamonti finally scored his first goal in Serie A in the match against SPAL. Throughout the whole season, Pinamonti had scored 5 goals and registered 3 assists in just 27 games played in the league. He is the main threat in front of the goal as he registered 2.2 shot per game and 1.3 of them are on target, only behind the club top goal scorer Camillo Ciano by just 0.1 differences. However, he couldn’t save Frosinone from relegation as the whole team was underperformed throughout the whole season. In fact, Pinamonti had contributed almost one-third of the Frosinone goals throughout the whole season. After the season ended, Pinamonti captained Italy U20 at the 2019 FIFA U20 World Cup, where he scored four goals in the competition and lead his team to reach semifinals.

Pinamonti was once again loaned out to another Serie A side to gain more game time, this time to Genoa with an obligation to buy at the end of the season. He had a perfect debut in Genoa as he scored and assisted in the first match against AS Roma. In this season, Piamonti had scored 7 goals and registered 3 assists in all competition as he helped Genoa narrowly escaped relegation. Interestingly, Pinamonti takes less shot per game as the statistic dropped to 1.6 shot per game. However, 1.0 of the shot are on target means that he is still the lethal striker that he best known as. At the age of 21, Pinamonti is still far from being the complete player that he destined to be. All he needs is more playing time to develop his skills and techniques.
Verdict

Potential: 7. He is proven to be a lethal striker in youth level and a consistent threat in the mediocre Serie A side. However, it is not enough to be the world-class striker that most Italian expect him to be. He would need more playing time in a better club than Frosinone and Genoa to prove himself that he could still up to his game in a better and more competitive club in the league.
